Dr. Ian Krantz, a pediatrician and geneticist on the faculty of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), is a life-long classic car enthusiast. He is also passionate about finding the causes of rare genetic conditions and birth disorders and has found a unique way to bring these two worlds together.

On Saturday, June 16th, this founding member of the non-profit organization Cool Cars for Kids, Inc. will host the second annual Philadelphia Concours d’Elegance at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia. The event will bring together families of children with birth disorders and classic car enthusiasts who share a common passion and appreciation for the one-of-a-kind.

This premier classic car event will showcase a rare assembly of American and European classic and historic automobiles, including a 1910 Pierce-Arrow and a 1967 Bizzarrini V-12 P538, described as “one of the most remarkable creations that ever came from man’s hand.”

“This is an event the whole family can enjoy,” said Krantz. “There will be lots of activities and free ice cream for the kids, a back lot filled with “cool cars” owned by local car enthusiasts, and a display of jaw-dropping classic automobiles that have to be seen up-close to be appreciated.”

There will also be a Friday evening Preview Gala where attendees can meet the car owners and learn the fascinating back stories of each car’s provenance. A Silent Auction fundraiser will help to support the research work being done at The Center at CHOP and the multidisciplinary care and support it provides to children and families struggling with the medical complexities associated with rare diagnoses.

“Classic car enthusiasts want to see their cars reach toward their full potential,” said Krantz. “Families of children with rare diagnoses have the same desire for their loved ones. Both groups realize that it takes time, patience, dedication and expert care to realize their highest potentials. A perfect match!”
